  • Neutopia II Walkthrough – Part 9 (Dirth: Emperor of Darkness)

    Atra Labyrinth

This is it! The moment we’ve worked so hard for! Time to kick some smelly Dirth-butt!

Prepare for Dirth by making sure that you’ve got all the required items: the Gold Armor (located in the Labyrinth of the Four Statues), Gold Shield (located in the Twin Towers), and the Legendary Sword. If you are missing any of these items go back and get it – you cannot fight Dirth without all of them. You should already have all four medallions needed to break the seal to the final labyrinth. Make sure you’re also fully stocked with medicine, Boom Bombs and have some cash to use the cursed flail. A boomerang is also useful to have.

Proceed carefully through this labyrinth, it’s four floors and full of dead ends. At this point you should be used to the type of enemies that you’ll face – Follow the map and you should be fine.

    Fighting Dirth:

Dirth is an asshole. When you face him, he takes your three staffs away and uses them against you. How he simply takes them without a fight is beyond me. The only weapon that will hurt him anyway is your sword. Two Dirth’s will slide onto the screen at once, one will fire a random staff at you and the other simply disappears. As soon as they appear again, pick one and swing your sword once at it and then run away regardless if he’s the real one. Repeat this hit & run tactic. I find that the one that appears closest to you each time is usually the real Dirth. Don’t bother with a second hit right away or you WILL take damage. If you’re patient, you can actually defeat him without taking any hits at all.

If you’re having trouble with him, watch the video below.

After you’ve defeated him, you’ll see the rest of the story wrap up and be treated to a nice recap of all the boss fights during the final credits. Then, finally a teaser for Neutopia III to be released sometime later in the 90′s – Here’s a spoiler: It never got made so don’t bother looking for it.

  • Neutopia II Walkthrough – Part 8 (Four Statues)

    Labyrinth of the 4 Statues

In the desert, there’s a monk who is an expert on life, he’ll give you an extra heart. Make sure you find him as every little bit helps.

Travel Westward through the desert and eventually you’ll find an area with spiders and four statues. Kill the spiders and the four statues will come together in the middle revealing yet another labyrinth. The biggest thing that you’re searching for here is the Gold Armor, Princess Keia and, of course, the final medallion that the boss guards.

There’s a couple of rooms on my map that I’ve never managed to plot out but they should be of no consequence to you. Again, like the Gold Shield in the Twin Towers, make sure you get the Gold Armor – It’s not an option to fight Dirth without it.

    Fighting the Boss:

    The Sorfloid

The Sorfloid is a tough one, he’s big and it’s hard to tell which way he’ll move. He’s only vulnerable when the petals open up and his neck extends. He’ll also throw homing petals at you – you know what? He’s a lot more badass than I’m making him sound with all this talk of petals – these petals hurt… BAD! I always use a combination of the Lightning Staff and the Flail to kill him.

When he’s been destroyed, speak to the Princess and she’ll give you the Green Medallion to help break Dirth’s barrier.

  • Batman: Arkham Origins

Finally, official word has been made about the new game in the Batman Arkham series. Arkham Origins will be a prequel that I have mixed feelings about right away since I was really, really looking for a continuation of what will happen to Batman after the Joker’s death (or maybe Batman fell for the old fake Joker gag… again).

It’s taking a Batman: Year One approach where Batman is a great crime fighter but not yet achieved his great bad-ass veteran status. I’m interested enough to be stroking an invisible goatee with intrigue. What makes me nervous though is that Rocksteady is not developing this game, instead it’s Warner Bros. Games Montreal. Hopefully they’ll live up to the high expectations that Rocksteady set.

To be released on October 25th, 2013. Not much info has been released yet but I’m hoping that maybe Harley Quinn will make an appearance in her original jester’s costume.

  • Portal 2 Adoption Controversy

This one is a little old but I just found out about it recently. So for those of you like myself that haven’t heard, WBTV (with the help of a lone nut parent) is making a big deal about nothing. Apparently making a joke regarding adoption is now so offensive that media had to be called in to investigate. I have to admit, when I first heard the line: “Fatty, fatty, no parents” I thought overweight people might be offended – but nope, it was a father with an adopted daughter.

Yay! Another crazy person that thinks they have a right to not be offended. No wonder we give out participation trophies now.

  • Neutopia II Walkthrough – Part 7 (Salamander & Zorbon)

    The Volcano

Head South of Pepai and you’ll immediately encounter lava that’s blocking you from travelling to the Desert.

Eventually you’ll find a volcano that you can’t enter. After speaking with some of the locals, they’ll mention a Mad Scientist named Nanyo that’s hiding in the Western forest. Look for five trees grouped like an “X” and burn down the middle one, he’s there under it. Talk to him and he’ll give you the Magic Hand that will allow you entrance into the volcano. I’m not exactly sure why a scientist would be relying on magic but then again, I didn’t make the game.

Go back to the volcano and enter it. You’ll be treated to a great Earthquake.

    The Salamander

    Fighting the Boss:
The Salamander is extremely easy, just let him chase you while you blast at him with the Lightning Staff. Every once in a while, he’ll roll up into a ball and throw three homing fireballs at you, one at a time. Defeat him and you’ll receive the Red Medallion.

Leave the volcano and an earthquake will strike, breaking a piece of ground off the mainland and sending you floating across the water to the Desert, reconnecting the town of Basara in the forest to the town of Oasis in the desert. In the middle of Oasis is a filthy lake surrounded by trees. Apparently, a fairy used to live there but can’t now because a monster moved in. Burn down the trees and a staircase is revealed. Go Down.

    The Zorbon

    Fighting the Boss:
Unlike the Salamander, the Zorbon is difficult. He’s rarely vulnerable and only when he’s travelling around the ground. Most times he’s jumping into the air and belly-flopping on the ground. When he goes splat, pieces of him going flying around that will hurt you. When you damage him, he splits into two smaller Zorbons and then splits into two even smaller ones again. Eventually splitting until he can be killed. I recommend staying on one part until it’s dead instead of trying to take on both halves.

Once you take him out and go back outside you’ll see the lake turn back to blue and the fairy who lives there thanks you by giving you the Blue Medallion.
